Due to rebounding global demand, China- and Taiwan-based PV makers have been expanding production capacities, mainly by negotiating access to unused PV equipment, according to PV industry sources.
Most unused PV equipment was ordered by China-based makers in 2011 but was not installed because the global PV market turned downward, the sources said. The equipment has now being auctioned off at steep discounts.
Because such equipment is limited, PV makers are looking at second-hand equipment as a second source, and ordering new machines is their third option, the sources said.
