SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A water diversion project at Santa Fe will use solar energy for its treatment plant.
The board of the Buckman Direct Diversion Project has authorized an agreement under which American Capital Energy Inc. will build and operate a one-megawatt solar photovoltaic plant.Officials say the plant will satisfy most of the electrical energy required by the diversion project's water treatment facility.The head of the board, Santa Fe City Councilor Rebecca Wurzburger, says customers will see a fixed price for the solar electricity for 20 years and will not have upfront capital costs.
About eight acres of solar panels will be located on U.S. Bureau of Land Management property next to the treatment plant.The board will pay the BLM $10,000 in rent a year.
