TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's solar companies are expected to benefit from a plan by China's Guangdong Province to boost the area's green energy industry, analysts said yesterday.
Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua, who is currently visiting Taiwan, announced the five-year 10-billion-yuan project to subsidize the province's green energy manufacturers. He made the statement while visiting Delta Electronics Inc.
Delta signed a letter of intent with Dongyuan City in Guangdong Tuesday to sell solar and LED products to the city, said Zheng Ping, Delta's Chinese chief executive. Delta has also installed LED street lights in Dongyuan on a trial basis, he said.
During the visit, Huang expressed his amazement at the various solar and LED products produced by Delta, and aired his wish Delta could expand its current investment project in Guangdong by setting up solar or LED plants. Cheng Chung-hua, Delta chairman, responded to Huang's wish in kind.
Huang also expressed his interest in Delta's 3D TVs and electric vehicles.
He especially took an interest in Delta's 3D TVs without the support of 3D glasses. “These products have huge market potential in China,” he said.
According to analysts, many Taiwan solar companies have already set up plants on the other side of the strait, manufacturing products that are then re-exported to Europe.
These manufacturers will eventually place a stronger focus on China, due to its growing influence and power, analysts said.
Yesterday, Delta closed at NT$113.5, up 4.13 percent. Motech Industries, a leading solar cell manufacturer, rose by 1.11 percent. The weighted index TAIEX closed little changed.
