GT Solar International Inc. (SOLR) said it has received new orders from a leading Asian polysilicon maker that total $70 million.
Shares rose 7.9% to $5.58 in recent premarket activity. As of Monday's close, the stock had fallen 14% in the past year.
The maker of equipment used by solar-wafer producers said it will provide new equipment and related polysilicon production services to the undisclosed company under the contract. GT's latest fiscal-year revenue was $544.2 million.
GT Solar in May said its fourth-quarter profit surged as the company posted better-than-expected revenue growth and improved margins. Many solar companies have been reporting stronger results of late as the global economy recovers and demand ramps up, especially in the U.S. and Europe.
