As Pakistan faces an energy shortage, Suntech’s collaboration with the local Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) is well timed. Suntech aims to bring solar power to Pakistan via rural electrification programs, solar-powered pumping systems and telecom projects, and signed a memorandum of understanding with AEDB to work together to achieve these goals.
This agreement will lead to cooperation between Suntech and Pakistan’s public sector in the implementation of these solar programs. Each individual project plan will, however, be subject to individual approval on the part of the parties involved.
"We are proud to collaborate with the Alternative Energy Development Board to bring the latest in crystalline silicon solar technology to Pakistan," said Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntech's Chairman and CEO. "This is a clear example of the promise of solar energy in meeting growing demands for electricity in the developing world in an environmentally friendly way.”
